The funds will be used to support the Canossian Sisters in their charities both at home and abroad. The Canossian Sisters were founded in Italy in 1808 by St Magdalen of Canossa who are today serving communities in 33 countries.

Queensland Health 2018 Influenza Informationhttp://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Queensland-Health-2018-Influenza-Information.aspxQueensland Health 2018 Influenza Information
Queensland Health wants to share these important flu facts with our school community:

Flu is dangerous for everyone, but particularly for children. During 2017, there were over 56,000 cases of confirmed cases of influenza in Queensland, of which over 10,000 were in children under ten years of age. Having an annual flu vaccine will help keep you, your family and the community healthy this flu season.

Visit: http://conditions.health.qld.gov.au/HealthCondition/condition/14/217/82/Influenza-The-Flu

Flu strains change each year and there is a new flu vaccine every year because flu viruses mutate easily and often. Flu spreads easily between people, particularly children.

You can get flu by either breathing in droplets that are infected with flu virus or from touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching your own mouth, nose or eyes.

Young children are more likely to spread flu because they tend to have greater contact with others, are infectious for longer than an average adult, and may not always cover their mouths when coughing and sneezing or wash their hands often enough. They are super-spreaders.

If you (or your child) are unwell, stay home until better.

Flu causes adults and children to miss out on their regular activities, such as attending school, work, family outings, sporting events or just hanging out with friends. Anyone with the flu should stay home, rest and recover for about 7 – 10 days.

We can all make a difference. Remember it is not 'just the flu', it is a serious disease. Having an annual flu vaccine will help keep you, your family and the community healthy this flu season.

Year 6 Camphttp://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Year-6-Camp.aspxYear 6 Camp
Last week, I enjoyed attending the Year 6 camp with our students at Lake Moogerah. The camp was a great learning experience for all who attended. The students were challenged at each activity to do their best, to co-operate with others, and to be resilient and independent.

I was most impressed by the support the children gave each other as they undertook each activity. The school staff and camp staff enjoyed their interactions with our students. I would like to thank the members of staff who attended (Mrs Mellon, Mr O'Leary, Mrs Cran & Mr Moss). I am grateful to them for taking time away from their own families to care for, support and encourage our girls and boys on camp this week.

ANZAC Day Marchhttp://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/ANZAC-Day-March.aspxANZAC Day March
This year, St Martin's School will be joining other local schools in the Camp Hill ANZAC Day march and ceremony on Wednesday 25 April. We hope to have a large representation of St Martin's students in attendance on the day.

The ceremony commences at 8:00am with a march from the Camp Hill Hotel, along Old Cleveland Road, to the Camp Hill State Infants and Primary School Senior Campus where the ceremony will be held.

The ceremony follows the traditional RSL service which includes wreath laying, songs and hymns and prayers for the Fallen and Peace. A guest speaker who will share the story of ANZAC Day. The ceremony usually concludes within an hour.

Participating students are asked to meet school staff in the Camp Hill Hotel carpark at 7:45am in their full, correct St Martin's uniform including school hat. Please ensure your child has sunscreen applied before arriving for the march and has a bottle of water.
