Year 6 Camphttp://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Year-6-Camp.aspxYear 6 Camp
Last week, I enjoyed attending the Year 6 camp with our students at Lake Moogerah. The camp was a great learning experience for all who attended. The students were challenged at each activity to do their best, to co-operate with others, and to be resilient and independent.

I was most impressed by the support the children gave each other as they undertook each activity. The school staff and camp staff enjoyed their interactions with our students. I would like to thank the members of staff who attended (Mrs Mellon, Mr O'Leary, Mrs Cran & Mr Moss). I am grateful to them for taking time away from their own families to care for, support and encourage our girls and boys on camp this week.

ANZAC Day Marchhttp://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/ANZAC-Day-March.aspxANZAC Day March
This year, St Martin's School will be joining other local schools in the Camp Hill ANZAC Day march and ceremony on Wednesday 25 April. We hope to have a large representation of St Martin's students in attendance on the day.

The ceremony commences at 8:00am with a march from the Camp Hill Hotel, along Old Cleveland Road, to the Camp Hill State Infants and Primary School Senior Campus where the ceremony will be held.

The ceremony follows the traditional RSL service which includes wreath laying, songs and hymns and prayers for the Fallen and Peace. A guest speaker who will share the story of ANZAC Day. The ceremony usually concludes within an hour.

Participating students are asked to meet school staff in the Camp Hill Hotel carpark at 7:45am in their full, correct St Martin's uniform including school hat. Please ensure your child has sunscreen applied before arriving for the march and has a bottle of water.

Holy Week Celebrationshttp://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Holy-Week-Celebrations.aspxHoly Week Celebrations
This year we celebrated the events of Holy Week with an Easter Prayer Walk. Each class has participated in the walk which commemorates this remarkable story, telling the story of the events from Palm Sunday through to Good Friday. The children have been able to follow the journey of Jesus' and experience firsthand, the events that led to his Crucifixion. Thank you to the staff that have helped me put this together and thank you to the parents who have joined their child's class for the walk. If you weren't able to make it you might like to discuss the story of Easter with your child/ren after they have experienced the walk. We will celebrate the Resurrection when we return next term on Wednesday 18th April at 11am. Prep have been working hard with Mrs Power, in Music, to learn a song for this Liturgy.

We are reminded that no matter how young or old we are, what a remarkable story the Easter story is. The fact that Jesus persevered in doing God's will in his life ought to give us hope in our own lives. Easter celebrates the promise of life in the face of death. Easter celebrations also reflect on peace and forgiveness which has come out of aggression. It is also a time for thinking about suffering, injustice and hardship. Let us focus this Easter, on the meaning of the Resurrection- New Life and new beginnings.

Say No to Bullying Discohttp://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Say-No-to-Bullying-Disco.aspxSay No to Bullying Disco
A great night was had by all on Friday as we celebrated together the National Day Against Bullying. The children came along wearing their orange clothes and wrist bands and danced the night away to some favourites put together by our DJ’s Matt Schultz and Jeff Reeves. A night like that could not happen if it wasn’t for the many volunteers we had to support the children on the night. Thanks to Tim Schultz and his team for the supervision, water and first aid.

We had a great week of learning strategies to deal with bullying behaviours and how to ‘choose kind’ over bullying. The teachers provided many learning opportunities in the classroom to reinforce the notion that bullying is not acceptable anytime, anywhere. Congratulations to Rocky O’Donnell for winning an award today for ‘Choosing Kind’. Rocky will enjoy an ice-block from the tuckshop to celebrate.
