Project Compassion 2019http://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Project-Compassion-2019.aspxProject Compassion 2019
A very big thank you to all families for your kind and generous donations toward Project Compassion. We raised a total of $870 from our Ice block days and other donations. Our last focus day was today, with the money from the purchase of Snow Cones going toward Project Compassion.

Thank you to the Year 6 teachers and students for co-ordinating this today. I have no doubt that our efforts will have our 100% sign covered fully with our stickers. It really has been a 100% effort on everyone’s behalf. We will announce the final total after the holidays. Thank you!

The Easter Storyhttp://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/The-Easter-Story.aspxThe Easter Story
This week we have been remembering the Easter Story with a special liturgy each day. On Monday we celebrated the events of Palm Sunday –where Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and the crowds gathered to cheer him, waving palms and singing out 'Hosanna'. Our Year 1 students did an awesome job of presenting this part of story. Thanks to Christian from Year 6 who has been playing the role of Jesus and to our two Year 6 narrators, Sienna and Rhianna.

Our second part of the story, Holy Thursday, was presented by students in Year 3. The students first shared the story of how Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, giving us an example of how Jesus wants us to serve one another, as he did to his disciples. The story then continued in the 'Upper Room' where Jesus shared the last meal with his friends. It was here he shared bread, his 'body' and wine, his 'blood' and asked his disciples to remember him. Jesus was also aware that one of his disciples, Judas, would soon betray him.

We continue the Easter story with Year 4 presenting Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane followed by the Arrest and Trial of Jesus. This will take place in the old assembly area at 2pm. On Friday, at 9am, we will conclude the Holy Week story with Year 5 presenting the story of Jesus carrying the cross, the Crucifixion and Jesus' Burial. This will also be held in the old Assembly Area. The Resurrection will be presented by Prep and Year 6, on Tuesday 23rd April at 2pm in the Dominic Centre. Parents and family members are most welcome to join us for these Liturgies.

Easter is a very special time in the Catholic Church. We are reminded that no matter how young or old we are, what a remarkable story the Easter story is. The fact that Jesus persevered in doing God's will in his life ought to give us hope in our own lives. Easter celebrates the promise of life in the face of death. Easter celebrations also reflect on peace and forgiveness which has come out of aggression. It is also a time for thinking about suffering, injustice and hardship. Let us focus this Easter, on the meaning of the Resurrection-New Life and new beginnings.

If you can make it along to some of the Easter Ceremonies in either our church, Our Lady of Graces, or another Parish that would be wonderful. Please find below the times for the Easter Ceremonies at Our Lady of Graces Parish, Carina.

Sunday Funday Collect and Cash inhttp://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Sunday-Funday-Collect-and-Cash-in.aspxSunday Funday Collect and Cash in
Did you know you can help raise money for our school library make-over just by collecting your plastic and glass bottles for recycling? It’s as easy as putting your recyclable containers in a box and dropping them off at the Cleanaway Morningside recycling depot!!

Cleanaway has teamed up with St Martin’s to establish a Sunday Funday account with all funds raised going towards the school library refurbishment. Every eligible container is worth 10c – so ask your friends and family to set aside their recyclables, ask the neighbours, ask everyone you know and start filling a box!

You should receive two tags and a brochure explaining the program in your child’s satchel this week. The tags display the Sunday Funday account number and need to be attached to your collection box before dropping off at the Morningside depot. An electronic version of the tags is attached to this email for printing if you require more.

Eligible containers include most glass, plastic, aluminium, steel and paper-based cartons between 150mL and 3L – such as soft drink cans and plastic bottles, as well as beer bottles and other glass containers. Non-eligible containers include milk bottles, wine bottles and spirit bottles. Let’s all do our part for the environment and our school!

Year 1 Sponsored Masshttp://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Year-1-Sponsored-Mass.aspxYear 1 Sponsored Mass
Thank you so much to all our Year 1 students and their families for coming along to mass on Sunday and for helping with the ministries during the mass. Thank you also to the members of staff who were there and helped out with the children and a special thanks to Mrs Power and the students who joined her for the choir. It was a lovely mass and we especially enjoyed listening to the Year 1 students sing 'These Hands'.

Our next School Sponsored Mass will be on Sunday March 31st at 9amand it will be our Prep classes who will be invited to join us and participate. There will also be a morning tea after mass. Of course, all school families, regardless of which year level your child/ren are in, are always invited to come along to these masses.
