Catholic Education Week 2018http://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Catholic-Education-Week-2018.aspxCatholic Education Week 2018

Catholic Education Week will be celebrated across Queensland from 29th July – 4th August this year. This annual event is held to promote the special ethos of Catholic schools and to highlight the great things that take place in Catholic schools every day. The theme for this year’s celebrations is: Discovering New Horizons. Catholic education strives to make a difference in the lives of those in our schools and in the wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society.

Painting of the stepshttp://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Painting-of-the-steps.aspxPainting of the steps
Last week, the students, along with the art team from Graphiclines, transformed the bland and plain staircase outside the library, to a colourful storybook theme. The transformation has been outstanding and has bought this space to life. Many children had the opportunity to participate and or watch the artists at work.

More photos our school Facebook page.

Italian Day donation to Canossahttp://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Italian-Day-donation-to-Canossa.aspxItalian Day donation to Canossa
<span style="color:#385522;line-height:107%;font-family:"calibri",sans-serif;font-size:11.5pt;">Recently our school had the privilege of presenting Sr Belen and Maryann from Canossa Kindergarten with the proceeds of our Italian day. The funds will be used to support the Canossian Sisters in their charities both at home and abroad. The Canossian Sisters were founded in Italy in 1808 by St Magdalen of Canossa who are today serving communities in 33 countries.

Queensland Health 2018 Influenza Informationhttp://www.stmartinscarina.qld.edu.au/news-events/Pages/Queensland-Health-2018-Influenza-Information.aspxQueensland Health 2018 Influenza Information
Queensland Health wants to share these important flu facts with our school community:

Flu is dangerous for everyone, but particularly for children. During 2017, there were over 56,000 cases of confirmed cases of influenza in Queensland, of which over 10,000 were in children under ten years of age. Having an annual flu vaccine will help keep you, your family and the community healthy this flu season.

Visit: http://conditions.health.qld.gov.au/HealthCondition/condition/14/217/82/Influenza-The-Flu

Flu strains change each year and there is a new flu vaccine every year because flu viruses mutate easily and often. Flu spreads easily between people, particularly children.

You can get flu by either breathing in droplets that are infected with flu virus or from touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching your own mouth, nose or eyes.

Young children are more likely to spread flu because they tend to have greater contact with others, are infectious for longer than an average adult, and may not always cover their mouths when coughing and sneezing or wash their hands often enough. They are super-spreaders.

If you (or your child) are unwell, stay home until better.

Flu causes adults and children to miss out on their regular activities, such as attending school, work, family outings, sporting events or just hanging out with friends. Anyone with the flu should stay home, rest and recover for about 7 – 10 days.

We can all make a difference. Remember it is not 'just the flu', it is a serious disease. Having an annual flu vaccine will help keep you, your family and the community healthy this flu season.
