In the spotlight

The Blessing and Opening ceremony of our new Early Years building was a momentous occasion.  The singing of the children was a wonderful way to celebrate this milestone in the life of our school community.

As we grow and change, it is vital that we show appreciation for what has gone before as we build for the future.  A special symbol of the Blessing and Opening was this bell which has a special connection to our past.

The bell originally came from a ship, the SS Bonito of 1887, and was acquired by Mr Frank King, in the late 1950’s or early 60’s, so the nuns could have a way of signaling the students to return to class from the outreach of our school boundaries. Since the late 1950’s till the mid 1990’s, when the sound of the bell was replaced by the sound of music, the children were signaled back into class by its clear ringing tone.

As the bell rang out from the building that has now been replaced by our new Early Years classrooms, we took the opportunity to remove the bell and restore it for future use, where it can continue to stand as a symbolic connection with our past and those who have worked tirelessly to build our community.
