Feast Day of St Dominic

dominican_day.jpgIt was a wonderful experience as we gathered with our good neighbours from San Sisto College for the Feast Day of St Dominic. Our two schools share the same Dominican heritage which we identify through a commitment to prayer, study, community life and service. We are fortunate to still have four Dominican priests in residence in the parish including our Parish Priest, Fr Alex who celebrated Mass for us last Friday.

August 8 was the Feast Day and 109th anniversary of the death of Australia's first saint, St Mary of the Cross (MacKillop). Mary spent her life reaching out in love and compassion to those in need. Mary respected the dignity of each person, lived with humility, acted with simplicity and embraced each individual with love. Mary lived by the motto: 'Never see a need without doing something about it' as well as 'Find happiness in making others happy'. Her story continues to inspire people to reach out to others in service.
